Nearly 6 years after joining Facebook, I finally decided to quit Facebook. I made up my mind last night and within ten minutes I am out. Most of my friends don’t even know that I am not in there anymore. How long will it take for them to notice my absence I don’t know but what I know for sure is that most of them will forget me real soon. I am absolutely ok with that and it won’t bother me a bit. Definitely, I will be missing some of my classmates, friends and family members but I really didn’t had any other choice. I was thinking about it for quite sometime now but I just couldn’t simply pull the plug.
Facebook is a great social tool, there is no question about it. Through Facebook I found so many of my old friends which otherwise might have been quite impossible to get in touch with them after so many years. If I were to pin-point one most important reason why I decided to leave Facebook, the best answer would be “I wasted so much time in there”. I felt over the years slowly it became a kind of addiction for me and I think I just had enough of it.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved Facebook but I think it was just little too much for me sometimes. Bombarded by thousands of updates, comments, likes and advertisements on daily basis was overwhelming for me, so much so that sometimes I felt exhausted & frustrated. As a last resort, I started unsubscribing most of my friends yet somehow Facebook managed to pump-in irrelevant topics, contents and suggestions in front of my eyes every day. Facebook is successful in doing whatever they intend to do from the very beginning, so due credit must be given. Job well done Facebook!
I am not letting you to make money out of my time anymore, I am out.
