International Mother Language Day 2016

21st February is here once again. A day not only to remember the fallen ones but also to move forward with the ethos to spread and preserve the language you speak and love so much.

UNESCO stated the theme for IMLD 2016 to be:

Quality education, language(s) of instruction and learning outcomes.

Which emphasizes on the importance of Mother Language to bring quality education and linguistic diversity. It is also a part of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN back in 2015.

As the world passed the deadline for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), 193 member states of the United Nations has adopted the new “Sustainable Development Goals” that we all are expecting / working on to achieve by 2030. Meeting such ambitious goals for the entire planet is definitely not an easy job. It requires collective efforts of all the member states, as much as it requires all of us to play our individual role as a global citizen, sensibly and effectively.

The greater expectations for a better planet, to bring prosperity, to strengthen universal peace is only possible if we all work together despite all of our differences and linguistic barriers. The language of common good requires no alphabet or grammatical complexities but our sincere effort. Let’s do it together and leave a better planet for our future generations to live in.
